Nuestro gran amigo, camarada y coordinador ha sido asesinado a la salida de la iglesia de su barrio por hombres en moto que le dispararon y mataron pocos días después de que pidiera la renuncia del alcalde de Libre, Adán Fúnez, por sus vínculos con el narcotráfico.

Tenemos el corazón destrozado y ofrecemos nuestro más sentido pésame a su esposa e hijas, y a todos los que han sido golpeados en esta lucha por la dignidad. No descansaremos hasta que haya justicia para Juan y nuestros mártires.

EL ESTADO DE HONDURAS NOS HA VUELTO A FALLAR. Juan siguió siendo criminalizado por el Estado de Honduras e Inversiones Los Pinares por defender la Montaña de Botaderos y el Parque Nacional Carlos Escaleras y los Ríos San Pedro y Guapinol después de que el MP interpusiera recursos que anularon su sobreseimiento. Es beneficiario de las medidas cautelares 137-2023 dictadas por la CIDH. Casi un año después de que la CIDH otorgara las medidas para Juan y 29 personas más, no se ha tomado ni una sola medida para garantizar la seguridad de los defensores. Our great friend, comrade and coordinator has been murdered outside his neighborhood church by men on motorcycles who shot and killed him a few days after he called for the resignation of the mayor of Libre, Adán Fúnez, for his links to drug trafficking.

We are heartbroken and offer our deepest condolences to his wife and daughters, and to all those who have been beaten in this struggle for dignity. We will not rest until there is justice for Juan and our martyrs.
